Psychotherapy & Counselling FAQ's

What Is Psychotherapy & Counselling?
Psychotherapy & Counselling provides a supportive, safe and non-judging relationship with a trained professional you can trust. It’s a space where you can talk about things in your life that you find difficult. Psychotherapy is more than just a chat. It involves us setting realistic, objective and measurable goals to help you cope better in your life. It gives you hope and helps you heal. Our therapeutic relationship is built on the foundations of trust, care, respect and compassion.
Yes, our counselling sessions are confidential with limitations. As a Psychotherapist working under the Code of Ethics of the APCP I discuss our sessions with a Clinical Supervisor. If a client poses serious threat to themselves or others or where a minor or vulnerable person maybe at risk, I am duty bound to consult with the appropriate authorities and or report any concerns. I can also be required to disclose by a court order although this is a rare exception. I can be mandated to report to the Child & Family Agency (TULSA) where child abuse has been disclosed and the alleged perpetrator is identifiable. A contract will be discussed and signed before any therapy commences.

Each individual session runs for 50 minutes for individuals and 90 minutes for Couples. Sessions usually take place once a week or once every fortnight. Short term therapy is usually 10-12 sessions but this varies from one client to another. A review will take place at session 5 to assess how you are doing and to explore any adjustments that may need to take place. Long term therapy is client dependent and will continue as long as you need.
